We usually gather at the field at 10:00am to set up, with assembly at 10:45 and sighters at 11:00 but please check the email notifications sent out by the secretary prior to the event.
This is always a fun and friendly shoot – please join us for a great day out. You can enter by contacting Club Field Captain Phil Lees with the round you’d like to shoot.
A cool, cloudy and slightly breezy day for this year’s competition: 18 archers on the line to shoot in the various National rounds organised by Phil. The rain threatened but did not, luckily, materialize – shooting proceeded smartly with some great scores being racked up under the watchful eye of Club President Marlene and Lord Paramount John.
With catering expertly laid on by Debbie and Julie, Phil had the results compiled in a jiffy and we were wrapped up in no time.
Many thanks to all the archers for joining us today, and to those (along with their parents) who helped set up and break down the field: its always a big job and all assistance is welcome! Thanks as always to Phil, John, Debbie, Julie and Brian for their hard work to make the day so enjoyable. A fitting end to a great outdoor season at Runwell.

This year’s competition saw 21 archers line up to shoot the National rounds under thick cloud with a very stiff westerly breeze acting as a tailwind. Great to have almost our best turnout for a club competition this late in the summer: a couple of new faces and many ‘old hands’ enjoying the last outdoor competition, signing off a busy (and after our recent burglary slightly traumatic) 2016 season.
Despite the tricky breeze, some great scores were put in: a few new PBs and some great ‘Best Golds’ and ‘Worst Whites’! Well done to everyone shooting, and many thanks to all the helpers for quick set-up and break-down of the field, our lady P Nicky H and Jane D for the customary post-shoot tea, and of course organiser Phil for getting us all together.

On a beautiful bright, sunny and fairly warm day – with a tricky Northerly breeze – it was great to see the biggest turnout this year for a club competition, with 24 archers in both Junior and Senior categories (along with various support teams) enjoying a lovely afternoon of friendly competition – for some it was their first event!
As usual, we shot a variety of National rounds suitable for all abilities and some great scores were recorded – notably Sam B (shooting with sight and stabiliser this time, not his usual barebow) with 608 in the Short Junior National and Lauren B shooting up at 80yds in the Long National with 506.
Commiserations to Alison B who suffered equipment issues – never a happy way to finish a shoot and special mentions to Lauren’s sister Chantelle for taking gold in her first shoot, and Edward E and Mat W for completing the competition as novices: it was great to see you on the shooting line and we hope you enjoyed the day.
Many thanks to Phil for organising the competition with his usual efficiency (and getting the results out on the day), and to Brian and the field party (including very helpful parents) for getting everything set up and broken down in quick time.
All in all, it was a fitting end to a good season of outdoor shooting for the club. Time to get ready for the indoor season now!
